To examine whether two groups with specific ages have an ability to remember a list of twenty items and remember the items on the list after thirty seconds. By gathering data from random participants and separating into groups of two (those twenty years old and younger as well as those thirty-five and older), the results show those younger then twenty responded quicker in reciting off items off their given table in a shorter amount of time with fewer errors and add-ons possible proving the hypothesis in which those younger in age are able to remember items utilizing short-term memory.

This literary review will show the following: The functional purpose of The Bhagavad-Gita , how it originated and how it has transcended not only India, but also the entire world. In addition, this paper will also tie in how it affects me personally as someone on the Autism Spectrum Disorder, including a brief explanation on the condition as well. From it’s origins as a document before a war broke out, it became a doctrine. Even as it is explained at the beginning: “King inquired: Sanjaya, please tell me, in detail, what did my people and the Pandavas do in the battlefield before the war started?” (Jayaram, 1.01), its reverence in time poses similarities between cultures of the east and ultimately over time, the entire world. The Gita has not only affected just those who practice the philosophies inside it in India, but also the entire world. Autistics view the world differently, depending on their functioning levels. How Autistics perceive religion, especially one which is utilized by the second most populated country in the world (being India), this reference work (being The Gita) is crucial for Hindus and it has definitely shaped the way the world perceives religion.

Karma can come back to haunt you as some people might think. People’s misinterpretations on what karma is and is not good or bad luck. It is more of a destiny thing in which leftover energy and other carried burdens go from one life to the next to the next.
2. Is the concept (not the Sanskrit name) found in the Bible?
Yes, but the concept of reincarnation is only alluded to in vain. Seemingly, karma in the broad sense is referred to the broad sense of just reincarnation, because the bible vehemently disavows the concept. So karma necessarily is only alluded to in vain.

In the Bieber example, alienation strikes out at me because of the sheer fact he acts as though he is above the law, above his peers, above this, above that. If you really think about that, it is definitely true. As Dyer termed alienation, he clearly stated: “People are said to feel ‘alienated’ because the goals of society and the norms which carry them are the goals and norms of groups other than those to which the people in question belong […] You feel alienated because you are outside the ruling groups in society” (Dyer, 167). His goals, his lifestyle, and his premises all make him subject to doom to failure, because he alienates himself from the concepts of modern society. Then again being an anomie, because he “doesn’t fit in with prevailing norms and/or because they see the latter’s pointless” (Dyer, 167).

When one really takes a hard look and wants answers to their questions, one must do an in-depth soul search to get to the solutions. The one misconception people attribute in first impressions, you cannot tell what is their beliefs, personality, mental status, gender preference, and sexual orientation. This is true, but in this case, we are talking about autism. You cannot normally tell whether someone has autism from first glance. No one in my family knew, but after some in-depth soul searching, I know that there was something wrong with me, and needed help to survive going forward. In this essay, I will explain my journey, while explaining autism and utilizing Friere’s work, as well as a couple other sources relevant to properly expressing myself. I honestly have issues having explaining myself, expressing myself properly, and I hope you bear with me over the next few minutes as I present this to you, fellow classmates

One can perceive their opinions, feelings, and beliefs regarding government surveillance in a plethora of ways, yet, with our ever changing world, legality issues and paranoia persists. As more and more issues surrounding controversial methods utilized by the National Security Agency (NSA), lawsuits such as those brought to courts by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are being struck down for lack of evidence, government loopholes, or both. As I aim to establish all elaborate topics, I hope to ascertain and convey this: our severely altered first and fourth amendment rights forced us to live in the Orwellian “Big Brother is watching you” mentality. The world has changed, some say for the better, some for the worse, but when it all boils down to an answer, we have to reflect on where we came from and where we are going.

There are several ways one can interpret their beliefs, feelings, opinions of subjects revolving government surveillance. In modern day philosophies, government surveillance is construed as intrusive, illegal, unwanted, and unnecessary. The primary purpose of my visual image, characterized by several political cartoons drawn through an online generator called FunnyTimes, is conveying several aspects: lawsuits against the government dismissed left and right regarding surveillance purposes, how the government conducts surveillance, fears and opinions, and finally, the constitutional/legality of government surveillance. As I carefully examine each and every aspect of my multifaceted political cartoon, which show behavioral acts, bold font expressing anger or joy, and also beliefs and philosophies satirized in political cartoons, these points ultimately support my presented claims. Government Surveillance is an entity we all have to live with, learn to accept, have to understand the types of surveillance methods utilized by government officials, and what the legality of the practices are. The government has believed these methods are the only way to protect the country, its citizens, and the rest of the world from issues such as terrorism, other heinous crimes, and protecting us from ourselves.

Do people honestly interpret media correctly? In some eyes, yes is the answer, because of the nature of how media has transformed everyday lives personally, professionally, and socially. These particular instances revolve around notions devised by advertisers, marketing research firms, think tanks, and even consumer purchasing habits. Media has been around us for centuries, its shape and form, have been altered time and time again to change with the times, so every individual around the civilized world stays informed, keeps purchasing goods and services, and spreads information from one to another. In his most remembered speech projected by the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1963, his vision or “dream” for the future was a direct result of the hatred and negligence throughout past decades upon African-Americans. King's amplified delivery of his prolific speech at the Lincoln Memorial became a defining moment of the American Civil Rights Movement. King's civil rights struggle reached a crescendo, the moment King outlined his beliefs, principles, and ideals to persuade others in joining his cause for change and prosperity. King's argument created a public debate in accepting and creating change for all Americans through non-violent means.
King’s sharp, clear, and substantial argument of civil rights for everyone, regardless of color, ultimately generates the conclusion that not just Caucasian individuals, but every American should be treated equally, by being “free at last” (King). By giving this speech, King's words persuaded lawmakers, even JFK and LBJ to become more proactive in creating unity and hope for all citizens to be free from oppression, racism, and injustice.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez's eloquent piece of literature, One Hundred Years of Solitude, utilized real life issues of incest and infidelity to create his vision of a closed off society. These sexual transgressions haunted the household matriarch, Ursula Iguaran, even before her marriage to her cousin, Jose Arcadio Buendia. Over the course of her family’s ascent due to prosperity brought into Macondo, several generations of her offspring skirted notions of sleeping with blood relatives, all the while Ursula bared witness to subsequent generations generating offspring and worrying. Incest is “sexual intercourse between people who are very closely related” (Merriam-Webster). The married union of Ursula and Jose bore witness to the rise and fall of an empire, through decades of incest and infidelities, caused by fears of one woman’s prophecy, which destroyed hard work and prosperity over the course of Marquez’s literary masterpiece.

Transitioning from an established environment where violence happened every single day of your life to one whose conditions are unknown to you can be difficult to endure and sometimes hard to overcome. However, if one’s transition contains fascination, while reflecting on upbringing, development, and utilizing an open mind, one can truly succeed not getting lost in the shuffle, known as culture shocks. Marjane Satrapi’s Autobiographical novel Persepolis, characterizes her independence, developmental growth, endurances through family grief, as well as a life journey from post-revolution Iran. When leaving Iran for Austria, Satrapi’s extreme difficulty leaving family behind posed emotional and bittersweet parental goodbyes who feared her out-spoken life would perish by staying. “You’ll see, everything will be ok. Don’t cry. Think of your future. Europe awaits you. As soon as you get to Vienna, go and eat a sachertorte.

Within our world, the English language contains metaphors whether we understand, utilize, or even believe their existence throughout verbal projections divulged on a daily basis. From Doty's exuberant onset of “Souls on Ice”, images of mackerel provided fascination, wonder, and intrigue reminiscent of perfectly placed puzzle pieces. “I was struck by the elegance of the mackerel in the fresh-fish display. They were rowed and stacked, brilliant against the white of the crushed ice; I loved how black and glistening the bands of dark scales were, and the prismed sheen of the patches between, and their shining flat eyes. I stood and looked at them for a while, just paying attention while I leaned on my cart--before I remembered where I was and realized that I was standing in someone's way” (Doty, “Souls on Ice”). Inquisitive beauty at its finest, observed from first-person observation showed even a simple fish touches a person the way an eloquent love letter makes women shed tears. By elaborating his feelings eloquently, an ironic beauty unfolds with an uncanny ability to define metaphors that flows through his brains river.

We all take for granted what we are, who we are, where we come from, and where we are going, but there are those less fortunate who have walls surrounding opportunities for each person. Negativity in our culture defines our culture irregardless of race, creed, color, gender, or sexual orientation. The plight in overcoming obstacles placed in each and everyone of our lives and those around us are mind numbing. These obstacles are called stereotypes. We all face stereotypes regarding jobs, sports, household functions, education haunt each and everyone of us regardless whether it truly affects us personally or not. Unimaginable repercussions ultimately affect us all however, as evident by works in general literature, the comic books, television, as well as everyday life. Stereotyping individuals didn’t develop overnight, it happened over time, despite we are all children of God. You have observed, if not in your own personal life, others who were told, “You’re too dumb”, or, “You are a certain color”, or, “You can’t do that because your this way”. Pathetic as it may be, the reality of the situation is we at one time or another have been subjected to harsh criticism, a stereotype derivative.

To be educated means you have abilities to achieve prosperity, without living a wasteful life. Edward Wilson, Professor Emeritus at Harvard University tells us that: “The world has changed radically in the past several decades; it is going to change more, faster and faster. In spite of all we have accomplished through science and technology- indeed because of it – we will soon run out of margin. Now is the time to grasp our social and economic policies before we wreck the planet. At stake is humankind’s one shot at a permanently bright future...the world has little chance to solve any one of a plethora of issues … until we understand [the ways] all of them connect by cause and effect. We will be wise to look upon ourselves as a species and devise more realistic and pragmatic approaches to all the problems as a whole”(Sachs). To be educated means to be aware and enlightened in a myriad of areas of our lives. To make the kinds of connections Wilson suggests, we must look at the whole picture. Making critical connections is the key to our survival as a species. To be educated means connecting the dots throughout our development in order to pass on positive messages for generations to come. Using the readings of English 1A, we, as students can gain a sense of where we each fit into the larger view.

Negative press, research, and reports from around the world raised issues regarding our problematic oceans. Misguided and crucial errors humans make harm oceans using unsustainable practices which eventually eliminate many species of sea creatures and destroy the water they inhabit and we need for our survival as well. Countries around the world have been heavily positively praised while some have been lauded negatively, for instance, the United States. A crying shame how most countries on Earth seem in continuing spiraling towards ecological harm in an abundance of forms, regarding ocean garbage, coral reefs and oil spills over a twenty-five year period have caused our oceans’ ecology suffering to escalate.

Health benefits and negativity from the press regarding various aspects of operations have caused grief towards fast food conglomerates and end-consumers over the course of the industry's history. With the advent of Colonel Sanders in 1955, franchising his pressure cooked chicken to a Salt Lake City restaurateur and White Castle's innovations of serving smaller hamburgers, fast food has been a staple of Americana for decades. Each subsequent generation since the mid 1950's, has seen expansive growth and demand for fast food. With more parents working and not enough time to cook healthy meals for their offspring, fast food was the choice utilized. Health benefits and negative press have forced a change in operations from Nutritionists, environmentalists, protesters as well as the government giving adequate statistical data in regards to fast food, with the majority of said statistics coming after the release of the 2001 Eric Schlosser work entitled "Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal".

Each and every human being is a child of someone. Whether we want to believe it or not, we were brought into this world and we will continue the cycle in developing more children for many years to come. The parent-child relationship can be a troublesome one at times. It should be noted through psychological and sociological studies, no family is the same and no family is perfect. As we mature and develop, we all learn life's lessons the hard way. Experiences can be remotely similar with each person, but the uniqueness makes us different from one another. As our curiosity grows, it should be noted that we witness relationships blossom and also strain to the point of no return. Relationships and admiration of one another is felt, not just in real life, but through works of poetic literature and in a musical nature. Chapin sang poetically regarding a workaholic father that seemingly misses his child growing up, Mayer's words of remorse and neglect are expressed passionately also through music, Roethke's persona matured through influences under an alcoholic father, Atkins' parenting challenges that ultimately cause a sense of hope, and finally Kipling who wrote eloquently regarding his theories of life through a process similar to a recipe. Through adversity these materials of poetic expression provided heartfelt words of love, despite their troubled problems faced in their medium. The children mentioned specifically throughout these pieces, are someone's child who should be treated well, have someone as a role-model and this cycle of proper development will thrive for many moons to come.

Negative press, research, and reports from around the world raises issues regarding our current state in the fight surrounding poverty and homelessness, as a result of poverty. During my entire life, I believed stability will overcome a lot of self-development problems. It never usually is the case for everyone, particularly in my case. In tenth grade, there were situations regarding my family that ended up resulting in my Mother, sister and I becoming homeless. Homelessness can happen due to low income situations (such as job situations or little or lack of money), crime, lack of education, location, as well as lack of public assistance resources. Social class structures albeit turn their noses to those who are homeless, yet, not all these people are mentally unstable. My family, who ended up homeless in 1999, was as a result of several factors. It can be caused by not having enough money to find shelter, such as not making enough income. It can be due to a domestic dispute, such as being thrown out of your domicile. It can be caused by crime, such as someone (or more than one person) vandalizing and/or committing arson on your domicile. It can be caused by mental instability, before homelessness occurs.

This research report will show how my hypothesis: “Maternal Age and Stress during
pregnancy may cause atypical prenatal development,” such as the instance of my particular case.
I was born on the autism spectrum. My mother became pregnant with me in late November 1981 shortly after she became thirty-six years old. As most doctors suggested: Women should not drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, or do recreational drugs while pregnant. Also, women should consider not having children in their late thirties and early forties. However, in my Mom’s case, she was told by her gynaecologist, she would never be able to bear children. When she found out she was carrying me, she followed the usual routine of a pregnant woman: exercise, eat right, no drinking, no cigarettes, and no narcotics. However, when she's told she would have to have a caesarean birth, she was a little worried. Even still, this fear proved well-founded, when on Thursday, July 22, 1982, at 6:20 AM, at the San Leandro Memorial Hospital on 2800 Benedict Drive, San Leandro, California, however, there were complications stemming from my birth. My low birth weight (slightly under two pounds), proved critical, as I was whisked off to the University of California, San Francisco’s Mt. Zion Hospital, where I remained until I left the hospital on Friday, October 22, 1982, at three pounds and seven ounces. Long term effects of this may have damaged me somehow. I was in incubation during those ninety days with hoses and tubes everywhere. Prenatal care in 1982 costs less than it does now. My sister’s birth a year later, which she weighed four pounds six ounces and was a thousand times uneventful, cost my Mom close to seven thousand dollars, while the entire ninety-day birthing experience was slightly over one hundred thousand dollars. Doctors did everything to save my life, which my Mother and myself are eternally grateful. The reason why I chose this particular topic is that of the long-term effects, post birthing experience.

This literary review will show the following: How autistic individuals exhibit emotional and behavioral problems, how screening tools are used, and finally, relationships between mother and child as well as sibling relationships of those with autism spectrum disorder. According to the textbook, Exploring Psychology (Ninth Edition) by David G. Meyers (2014), autism spectrum disorder is defined as, (a disorder that appears in childhood and is marked by significant deficiencies in communication and social interaction, and by rigidly fixated interests and repetitive behaviors" (Meyrs, 2014, p G-1). There is no cure for A+D at the time of this particular literature review on the subect of A+SD. Psychology reports below show struggles facing ASD individuals from childhood to adulthood, which each and every individual afflicted by ASD leads to tolls taken on family members who have to care for said individual the rest of their lives.

I always wanted to be somebody. I knew there was something wrong with me which didn’t let me cope with the world. I was always told you should be somebody and not someone lost in the crowd. Fascinations of life got to me, sometimes it overwhelmed me. I get overwhelmed at certain things which freaks me out. Times I felt lost, times I felt happy, times I felt confused. Try articulating my thoughts, I get hurt. Try articulating what I would like to do, told you shouldn’t do so. Behave a certain way, I get dirty looks. Do something others do, I get laughed at. Try to stand up for yourself, you get beaten down. Life for someone like me does suck at times. Think about it. It can be confusing, but its true.
